Cape Peninsula Hiking Tour - 4 Days

Cape Town

Activity Description

CAPE PENINSULAR HIKE – 4 DAYS
Hike the full Cape Peninsular from Cape Town City to the Cape Point over four days.
GoVertical offers you a fabulous Cape Town overnight hiking trail full of spectacular views & iconic attractions. In the evening you can enjoy Cape Town’s fine restaurants & relax in well appointed accommodation. Luggage is transported between venues so you can hike in comfort.
We hike approximately 12 – 16 kilometres per day over mountainous terrain on a network of trails in the Table Mountain National Park

DAY 1 – TABLE MOUNTAIN VIA KASTEELSPOORT RAVINE
Our hike up Table Mountain starts near the Lower Cableway station. Initially gentle, the trail reveals lovely views of Lions Head and Camps Bay. The path veers up Kasteelspoort ravine where mountain fynbos, sheer cliffs & spectacular vistas accompany your ascent. Ruins of the old cable way are visible on this route and the ‘diving board’ is a perfect photo opportunity for those not scared of heights. From the top of the gorge the trail meanders into the Valley of the Red Gods, Ark Valley and Echo Valley before the final push to get onto the Table Mountain plateau.

From there it’s a gentle walk to the Cable Car station with amazing photo opportunities along every step. This hike gives you the best experience of the diverse ecology on Table Mountain. Descent is via the Cable car or Platteklip Gorge.
Overnight accommodation in Camps Bay

DAY 2 – CAMPS BAY TO HOUT BAY
We contour along Pipe Track a route that winds through the foothills of the Twelve Apostles, this series of mountains runs parallel to the Atlantic coast and the views over the peaks and ocean are beautiful. Gazing back towards the trail start, there are incredible views of Lions Head.

Depending on the winds we will traverse the 12 Apostles either in the shelter of the peaks along a contour path high above Camps Bay and Llandudno or ideally up along the ridge where you’ll be able to see both the Atlantic Sea board and False Bay to the East. We end the day in Hout Bay, a picturesque fishing harbour nestled between dramatic peaks.
Overnight accommodation in Hout Bay

DAY 3 – CHAPMANS PEAK TO NOORDHOEK
Chapman’s peak drive is a dramatic pass that climbs above Hout Bay over the mountains then down into Noordhoek. We hike above it but enjoy the same exquisite scenery all the way, from the beautiful harbour down to the brilliant white sands of Noorhoek Beach, this day of hiking is breathtaking. You’ll be able to see right down the Cape Peninsular and over the vast expanse of False Bay.Our third hike is over dramatic Chapmans Peak, with unbelievable views over the Hout Bay & False Bay when we reach the ridge. We end the day with a beach walk along Noordhoek Beach, a striking beach with glistening white sand.
A short transfer to the False Bay side of Cape Town for accommodation in Kalk Bay/ Simonstown.

DAY 4 – CAPE POINT NATURE RESERVE
Our final day is spent exploring the Cape Point Nature Reserve, the walking is less challenging but the scenery is just as spectacular. The reserve is part of the Cape Floral Kingdom this reserve forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is possible to encounter some of the natural game, such as Eland, Red Hartebeest, Bontebok & Zebra

We visit the two light houses on Cape Point, the first is the historical lighthouse built on Da Gama Peak in 1859, more than 200m above sea level. Unfortunately the fog that can roll in quickly made this lighthouse position less than perfect and a new lighthouse which perches dramatically 87m above the ocean, now signals passing ships.

From the dramatic scenery at Cape Point we walk on the cliffs above Diaz Beach – a beautiful sandy cove & its adjoining sea cliffs to Cape of Good Hope which is the southernmost point of the Cape Peninsular, the final destination on the Cape Peninsular explore hike.
